Privacy policy of CodeGiver

In short

CodeGiver is made by Dennis Smit (Smit Media). The app has no account, no ads and no analytics of its own. The developer does not receive your lists, codes or the names you enter. A few parts of the app are provided by Google (Google Play, text recognition and the Android backup); what they do is described below.

What is stored and where

Your lists, codes, the recipient names and labels you type, the log and your settings are stored on this phone, in the private storage of the app. Other apps cannot read it. They leave the phone only through the backup described below, or when you share something yourself. Notifications, the widget and the app lock work on the phone itself. Unlocking is done by Android: the app never receives your fingerprint, face or PIN.

When the app uses the internet

When you enter a web address to fetch an icon for a list, the app connects directly to that website, which sees your IP address just as when you visit it in a browser. Nothing about your lists or codes is sent. Google Play uses the internet to check whether you bought CodeGiver Pro, to handle the purchase and to show the rating window; the developer does not receive your payment details. Text recognition and the backup, both described below, can also use the internet.

Recognizing codes in a screenshot

The text is recognized on your phone with Google ML Kit; the picture is not uploaded. ML Kit may send technical usage data to Google, such as device model, app version, an installation identifier and performance measurements, to maintain and improve the component. It contains no codes or images.

Backup

The backup to your Google account is on by default. If the Android backup is on for your phone, Android then stores a copy of your lists, codes, log and settings in your own Google account, under Google's terms. You can turn this off in the Settings of the app; from then on nothing of CodeGiver goes along with the Android backup. A backup file you create yourself is saved where you choose and is not encrypted: keep it somewhere safe.

Sharing

When you copy or share a message, a list or the log, it goes only to the app or person you choose.

Keeping and deleting

Your data stays on your phone until you delete it. Delete a list in the app, or remove everything by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app. A backup in your Google account is removed by Google after you turn the backup off or stop using the app.

Website and contact form

The website codegiver.app uses no tracking cookies and no analytics. If you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are sent to the developer by email and are used only to answer you. A copy of the message is kept on the web server, so that nothing gets lost if the email fails. The web server keeps the usual access logs for security.

Spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)

The contact form on codegiver.app is protected against spam and bots by Cloudflare Turnstile, in invisible mode: you do not see a check. To tell people from bots, Turnstile processes technical signals from your browser, such as your IP address, TLS fingerprint and user agent, together with the site key of this website. Cloudflare uses this data to detect bots for this website and to improve Turnstile. Turnstile is loaded only on the pages that contain the contact form. This processing is described in the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum and the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Questions

Questions about privacy? Use the contact form on codegiver.app, or the developer contact details on the CodeGiver page in Google Play. If you report a problem from the app, your mail app opens with a message that already contains technical details of your phone (model, Android version, app version and language). You see them and decide yourself whether to send the message.
